I self-published my debut novel a few months ago and I agree with everything you said. Reviews are essential because they act as social proof to potential buyers when you're new in the space and don't have any followers. Reviews from popular Bookstagrammers carry more weight as well. My goal was to get 15 reviews and I reached that recently! :)
